Let the winds of creation blow!

Almost as colourful as the autumn-trees.
The month of October brought along trees of golden, the first cold blows and the workshop of the office workers of YFU. On the 14th and the 15th of October the tiny team of YFU Estonia gathered in the Tartu office to share, discuss, conclude and create. Those two incredible days were full of inspiration and laughter and we believe that it was the birthplace of a number of innovative thoughts that will bit by bit start to shape the face of YFU Estonia. Of course only for the better :)

What is a workshop in our context? It is basically one longer meeting, the aim of which is to discuss matters important to each sphere and share fresh ideas on how to develop one aspect or another. The everyday rush leaves no time for such creativeness which is why holding workshops every now and then is starting to become a sort of a tradition in YFU overall. In addition to the work that gets done, workshops are also a marvellous way to bring the team together, build stronger bonds and enjoy.

The main topics of the workshop of 2014 were the following:

  • Reports for the annual General Assembly – how to present the annual report so that it is easily comprehendable, eye-catching and at the same time informative enough. We came to the conlucsion that instead of the long and dull report covering four A4 size papers, one of the following methods could be implied – a report via video, graphic scheme or the Prezi presentation. We mapped the plus and minus sides of each method and evaluated the amount of workload that realizing each idea takes.

  • Compiling the action plan for the year 2015 – action plan is a vital tool in every organization as it helps make sure that all the events take place at the expected date and that all the work has an understandable purpose. This important documents gathers wihtin it the list of actions that are to take place and the schedule according to which it will happen. That helps make the work in the organization more seamless as well as forethoughtful. It is also an irreplaceable tool when writing funding reports and spreading the word about the organization.                                                                                                                                                                                                                           We also put down the aims for the next business year – what exactly do we want to reach? What needs to be updated? Questions such as these are just as important as the schedual and one could say they go together like a horse and carriage. We discussed the system of training courses, the forms of cooperation, volunteering and plenty of other aspects.

  • The new marketing plan – since August, the professional marketing specialist Evelin Mägioja has, together with us, been working on creating a marketing plan. During the workshop, we conluded what has been done so far and what is waiting ahead. Now that the masterpiece is almost ready for the world to set its eyes on it we must find the best ways for employing it in our daily work.

In addition to what has just been brought out, there was a number of short-topics as well and of course we did not forget a walk in the beautiful Old Town of Tartu, an exquisite dinner and the photoshoot of the office workers! The results of that will be revelaed next week :)

We wish all a cozy autumn! The first snow is not far away...
