Week of Donations

From the 27th of October until the 2nd of November YFU Estonia is holding the Week of Donations. The aim of this event is to raise people’s awareness about the process of collecting donations and the importance of donating within YFU as well as from the perspective of the wider society. The main purpose of the Week of Donations is to collect donations to the Alumni fund of YFU Estonia so that the second ever scholarship based on the Alumni fund could be nominated to one student going on an exchange year to Europe during this year’s first scholarship interviews that are to take place from the 17th until the 23rd of November.

The first Alumni fund scholarship in the amount of 1100 EUR was handed out in 2013. It was awarded to Karina Raku, a student from the Eastern part of Estonia and that scholarship enabled her to go on exchange to Germany for the school year 2013-2014. An overview of her eventful exchange year can be found here.

Thanks to those who have decided to be come permanent donators, the second scholarship within the Alumni fund that is directed to students travelling to Europe is currently worth 1020 EUR, which means that we are merely 480 EUR away from the formerly set goal!  Together we can hopefully reach the goal and raise the curretly missing 480 EUR within the next 3 weeks so that the second scholarship that will be awarded to one student during the scholarship interviews in November would be 1500 EUR!

According to research carried out in Estonia, the percentage of those willing to donate is relevantly low comparing to other countries which means that there is a lot of room for development. This could be the reason for YFU alumni to share their experience and through that also promote the thankworthiness of donating. Just like volunteering, donating is a way to contribute.

The Alumni Fund scholarships are awarded to students whose biggest dream is to go on an exchange year. It is a simple way to help the young people in Estonia discover the world. They are incredibly bold, curious and willing to risk as they jump into unknown waters with bright eyes. It is a chance for you to do a good deed. Let us keep our eyes open and notice the good we can do!
